What is it?
The spike protein antibody test is used to detect if your body has developed antibodies because you had been infected with COVID-19 in the past or because you have received your COVID-19 vaccine.
How is it different from the normal antibody test?
The regular antibody test is used to determine if you have previously been infected with COVID-19, whether you had symptoms or not. It may determine if you have some immunity. It does not test for a vaccine response.
The spike protein antibody test can determine if you were previously infected and/or your response to the COVID-19 vaccine. It may determine if you have some immunity.
How is the test done?
At least two weeks after receiving your final dose of the COVID-19 vaccine you can come get this new test. The test is a quick blood draw.
How long to receive results?
Results typically come back in 1-2 days.
What does it mean if my results are negative?
It means that your body has not developed antibodies to COVID-19. While we are still learning about this vaccine and the antibodies it produces, at this time it is believed that it means you do not have an immunity to COVID-19.
How much does it cost?
Most insurances waive the full cost of this test.
