Alicia Tezel, MD Elected to Urgent Care Association Board

Our very own Chief Medical Officer, Alicia Tezel, MD, FAAP, was elected to the Urgent Care Association Board. As a director on the board, Dr. Tezel will join a group of medical professionals seeking to bring the best of urgent care education and resources to the industry. Little Spurs Pediatric Urgent Care received accreditation from UCA in 2018 and has maintained accreditation status these last four years.
“It is an honor to be a board member with UCA,” Dr. Tezel said, “I hope to use this position to improve the quality of medical care of children, particularly in the urgent care setting.”
Dr. Alicia Tezel was born and raised in Lima, Peru. At the age of sixteen her family moved to Vienna, Austria where she graduated from high school at the Vienna International School. After graduation she received a scholarship through the Peru Texas Partners program to attend the University of Texas at Austin, where she graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Plan II honors. She then attended the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio for medical school and pediatrics residency.
Following residency, she worked in the Christus Santa Rosa Children’s Emergency Room for over fifteen years. During this time, she met Dr. Thomas Spurgat, and in 2006 they opened the first Little Spurs Pediatric Urgent Care in San Antonio. Since then, Little Spurs has grown to 14 locations in San Antonio and Dallas, with four more opening this year.
Dr. Tezel has served on the Bexar County Child Fatality Review Board, and is past president, and current board member, of San Antonio Pediatric Society. One of her proudest accomplishments as Chief Medical Officer at Little Spurs is the accreditation through the Urgent Care Association. She feels that the rigorous accreditation standards have helped enhanced patient care and added a level of professionalism to the clinical staff. As a member of the UCA board Dr. Tezel will continue to work to maintain high standards for all UCA members, and potential members, especially in pediatric urgent care. All patients seeking care through UCA members should expect only the highest level of care from professional staff.
Dr. Tezel continues to reside in San Antonio along with her husband Mark who works for the National Park Service. They have four children, and one grandchild. They enjoy spending time with the family, traveling and hiking throughout our National Parks.
Little Spurs Pediatric Urgent Care opened in 2006 in San Antonio, Texas. With multiple locations in San Antonio and Dallas, they are open seven days a week with extended evening hours and see walk-in patients or through an online check-in system. They accept most commercial insurance and Medicaid plans.
