This designation represents an important step in our ongoing commitment to creating a more inclusive healthcare experience for children with autism and related conditions.
What Does Autism Friendly Mean?
As part of earning the Autism Friendly designation, at least 80% of staff at every Little Spurs Pediatric Urgent Care location have completed Autism Speaks training focused on providing customer-inclusive service to people with autism and related conditions.
The training was developed by Autism Speaks in collaboration with autistic people and the broader autism community. It helps our teams better understand the experiences and needs of autistic patients and their families while reinforcing the importance of autism acceptance and accessible environments.
Why Does This Matter?
According to the latest CDC data, about 1 in 31 children are identified with autism. For many autistic children, visiting an urgent care can be overwhelming as it comes with new environments, unfamiliar people, sounds, lights, and unexpected changes. This can make a healthcare visit more challenging!
For pediatric urgent care teams, having autism-specific training can help staff approach visits with greater understanding, flexibility, and awareness of the individual needs of each child. Our goal is simple: help every child feel safe, understood, and supported when they need care. Becoming Autism Friendly is one more way Little Spurs is working to make pediatric healthcare more accessible for every family.

Through our associated brand, Little Spurs Autism Centers, we provide evidence-based, play-based, quality ABA therapy and support for children with autism and their families.
