What is the COVID-19 Antibody Test?

At Little Spurs, we offer the Antibody Test for COVID-19. It is a blood draw that gives results in about five days.

What is this test?

The antibody test may help determine whether you had COVID-19 in the past and now have antibodies to help protect against the virus. Antibodies are proteins the immune system produces that are critical for fighting and clearing out a virus. In general, a positive antibody test means that you had SARS-CoV-2 sometime in the past and does not mean you are currently infected. It is not used to diagnose someone with an active infection. If you think you currently have COVID-19, we recommend an antigen or PCR test.

When do I get this test?

This test is performed after full recovery from COVID-19 as these levels usually become measurable around two weeks following an infection.  Antibody testing may also help one know if they have had an asymptomatic course of COVID-19 during the past 1-2 months as levels begin to rise 15-40 days following an infection.

How much does this test cost?

We do not charge copays or deductibles for the antibody test at Little Spurs. However, you may get a bill from the lab after your visit, depending on your insurance plan.

Why should I get this test?

The antibody test is completely optional for the public. We find that a lot of patients request this test out of curiosity. An antibody test can show if you have had an asymptomatic course of COVID-19 in the past 1-2 months.

How do I get this test?

We offer the antibody test at any Little Spurs location. If you are over the age of 21, we recommend you do a telemedicine visit first, and then you will be sent to the clinic for the antibody test only.

At Little Spurs, we offer COVID-19 tests for children and adults up to the age of 64 at all of our locations. Little Spurs Pediatric Urgent Care opened in 2006 in San Antonio, Texas.
