Cuts, Scrapes, and Stitches

Services - Injuries

We take care of all kinds of cuts and scrapes at Little Spurs Pediatric Urgent Care. Apply firm pressure to any cut with a clean cloth or tissue. If it bleeds through, do not replace the cloth, but apply more on top. If you are not sure if your child needs stitches or any other kind of laceration repair, bring them to Little Spurs for evaluation.

About Cuts, Scrapes, and Stitches

Our kids urgent care team can treat many types of cuts and lacerations. Depending on the type, size, and location of the wound, we may use stitches (sutures), medical glue, or staples to help your child heal quickly and safely.

If too much time has passed since the injury happened, your child may no longer be able to get stitches. Generally, most cuts should be closed within 6–12 hours. After that, closing the wound could increase the risk of infection.

Even if it’s been a while, we still recommend bringing your child to Little Spurs Pediatric Urgent Care for an evaluation. Our team can assess the wound, clean it properly, and decide if your child may need antibiotics or other care to help prevent infection and promote healing.

Yes, we do! At Little Spurs Pediatric Urgent Care, our experienced providers offer suture and staple removal. If the stitches or staples were placed at one of our clinics, removal is provided at no additional cost. If they were placed at another facility, a standard co-pay or deductible may apply.

Whether your child had treatment for a cut, laceration, or surgical procedure, it’s important to have the staples or sutures removed at the right time to avoid complications. Our team at any pediatric walk-in clinic location can evaluate the healing site and remove them safely and gently.

Yes, we can! If your child comes to Little Spurs Pediatric Urgent Care for a cut, scrape, or puncture wound, and our provider determines a tetanus shot is needed, we can administer it. However, we do not provide tetanus shots as a standalone service or routine immunization.

Tetanus shots are often recommended after certain types of injuries to help prevent serious infections. Our team at any of our urgent care for kids clinics can evaluate the wound and your child’s immunization history to determine whether a tetanus shot is necessary.

No, we do not perform sedation. However, to make your child as comfortable as possible during procedures like laceration repair, our urgent care pediatrics team always uses local numbing agents to gently numb the wound before treatment.

If your child requires sedation for a more complex or extensive laceration repair, we will refer you to the emergency room for specialized care.
